It didn't matter that I had legally purchased this movie and it should have been mine fair and square. With all the hoopla about Hollywood going to extreme lengths to stop video pirating, I find it shocking that this movie company is doing the exact same thing in reverse!

The movie was rightfully mine, but the STOLE it back from me with no notification, no offer of compensation, not so much as a "how do you do"!.

I call that video pirating. When I called Amazon to ask what was going on, the Customer Service agent said that the movie company is issuing a new edition of the DVD and wanted to "encourage everyone to buy the new DVD".

The book Voyage of the Dawn Treader is episodic. Essentially, each chapter is a different island, and each island is a different adventure. What unifies is it the transformation of Eustace, not by a process of moral improvement, but by encountering Aslan face to face, after being turned into a dragon.

The film is about defeating a curse based on a dark island which moves around, swallowing hapless sailors. The dark island is, indeed, one of the adventures of the book, but it is a relatively minor one, though terrifying in itself, as it is the island 'where dreams come true'.

In the film, it is introduced right at the beginning, and becomes the purpose of the quest right at the end, with other adventures organised around it.

Auf dieses Ereignis hin steigt die Tochter eines Sterns mit dem Namen Lilliandil vom Himmel und sagt ihnen, dass das letzte Schwert und die Quelle des Nebels auf der dunklen Insel lägen.

Die Narnianer reisen dorthin und treffen dort auf den siebten Lord mit dem letzten Schwert, der ihnen erklärt, dass die Insel Albträume wahr machen würde.

Als er allerdings an eine Riesenseeschlange denkt, wird sie real und greift das Schiff an. Im Kampf wird Eustachius — als Drache — beinahe tödlich verletzt.

Es gelingt ihm noch, mit dem siebten Schwert zur Insel des Sterns zurückzufliegen. Nachdem er von Aslan geheilt und zum Menschen zurückverwandelt wurde, legt er das letzte Schwert auf die Tafel.

Somit ist der Bann der dunklen Insel und des grünen Nebels gebrochen. Edmund kann die Riesenseeschlange töten.

Auch die vom grünen Nebel Verschleppten werden befreit, unter ihnen Alane. Als Kaspian diesen fragt, ob er in sein Land könne, überlässt Aslan ihm die Entscheidung, weist jedoch darauf hin, dass, wer ein Mal in seinem Land sei, nicht mehr zurückkehren könne.

Somit entscheidet Kaspian sich, noch nicht in Aslans Land zu gehen, sondern nach Narnia zurückzukehren. Aslan öffnet andererseits für Lucy, Edmund und Eustachius ein Portal in ihre Welt, weist zum Abschied jedoch darauf hin, dass nach Peter und Susan nun auch Edmund und Lucy nicht mehr nach Narnia zurückkehren würden, für Eustachius lässt er diese Frage offen.

Diese sowie weitere Differenzen waren ausschlaggebend, dass Disney im Dezember bekannt gab, den dritten Teil nicht mit zu produzieren.
