This town will never be the same again. As day breaks over Fortitude, both the town and the police are left reeling after the recent discovery and its tragic implications.

Dr Khatri is interested in a different revelation. Convinced she has found the scientific holy grail, she risks everything to obtain this miraculous new subject.

Meanwhile, with his hope for Freya lost, Michael returns home. But his trip may not have been for nothing, as Vincent soon takes an interest in the curious bundle brought back from the tundra.

As suspicions are raised over Munk, Michael and Ingrid discover that Freya is missing and may be in the hands of the very man Dan is so desperately seeking…but will he find Dan first?

The tables are turned as Dan finds himself at the mercy of the man he has hunted. But, as the demon and the shaman face each other and their own disturbing pasts, who will be victorious?

Determined to find justice, Michael and Ingrid take the investigation into their own hands and a trail of deception begins to unfold.

Distraught and horrified, Vincent turns to the very woman Natalie fears most—she is, after all, the leading expert on this.

As Michael decides to take revenge, the town is presented with a violent proclamation and an armed helicopter swoops in to find its target.

With the case closed, Dan and his team are left to clear up the mess. But when a gruesome discovery is reported, it becomes clear that Fortitude is now under threat from something of a very different nature.

Meanwhile, Dr. Khatri obtains a new recruit in a last-ditch effort to complete her mission. Munk welcomes outside help, but things are now beyond his control.

With the community restless and suspicions taking hold, the town is a powder keg, and all it will take is one person to ignite it. All the while, Petra stands vigil.

A witness to every atrocity, she diligently carries out her duties, despite knowing that the very demon they all feared is still walking amongst them.

The early signs suggest that it is keen to build upon the elements of psychological horror -- with a splash of Seventies exploitation gore -- that best distinguish it from the catalog of Danish crime serials already on the market.

Seems to boast a sleeker storyline that builds on all the aspects that Fortitude has always excelled in: a brilliant cast trapped in a unique setting.

Yes, Fortitude is back - in all its mad, gory, moody glory - and straight away I'm hooked again. While it never quite hit the bonkers heights of the first season's best bits, this is a welcome return for Fortitude - engrossing and disturbing, there's enough here to convince you to take another bite.

Atmospherically, it's pretty perfect. All the story lines hold the viewer's interest and the acting is strong throughout.

If you want to be thoroughly unnerved and creeped out, this is your show. What first seemed like the apotheosis of British television's fascination with Scandi crime drama, recruiting a hive of international stars to a world of snow and tasteful furnishings, actually became a more effective emulation of Scandi horror.

The isolation of the town and the beautiful danger of its environment are superb starting points for a drama of danger, human extremes and paranoia.
