While I Am Legend starts off very well there were some plot holes and story choices that spoil things. The dilemma in the movie is that Dr.
Neville is the last person left on Earth and needs to survive while continuing to conduct his work on the virus.
He is in Manhattan which has become a wilderness. During the day there are animals about like deer and even lions. At night the former humans who have turned into their own kind of beast come out.
Neville is determined to try to find a cure, especially because he lost his wife and child. Before they passed he said that he could fix things, and he believes that even more after his family died.
The beginning of the movie is very good. It uses a series of flashbacks to set up how Earth got into its situation and the role Dr.
Neville played in it as an army scientist working on a serum both before and after the disaster. The human beasts are also very well done even though they were all computer graphics.
They only come out at night and die in the sunlight. Originally in the book they were vampires, but that was dropped in this version of the story.
Will Smith also plays his role well. He has to carry the whole story for most of the movie because there are no other people left.
The problems with the story begin with the beasts. At first they appear to be mindless. What was the purpose of their appearance? It made Neville remember back to when he had his own daughter.
He had to adjust to having people around. Otherwise they were simply added to have some hope at the end of the film.

Here they must have started with either the original film or a first-generation print of it. Being that the theatrical version was released in , these are easier to locate than for older films.
